Seed

When your home or business is ready for grass, there are two options available to you: seed or sod. Growing grass right from the seed is cost effective and more environmentally friendly. Some grasses will grow better in full sun, partial sun, or full shade, so when you seed your lawn you can choose a mix that works best for your yard. Sod is usually grown in full sun so the varieties of grass they contain may not do as well in your yard. Additionally, rolls of sod contain a plastic mesh that helps to hold them together.

Ideally, seeding is done in early spring or fall, when temperatures are mild, to give the seeds time to establish themselves before the heat of summer. Not every seed planted will germinate, but planting in this time frame increases the percentage of seeds that will, which means a thicker lawn for you sooner.
